There are 2 main types of Stainless Steel Dome Nuts (also called Acorn Nuts) and it is worth knowing the difference if you want a top finish.
You have 1-Piece Dome Nuts and 2-Piece Dome Nuts. I know what you are thinking – ‘I don’t care how many pieces just make sure it looks good’, but this is why it is important to know what you are getting.
1 Piece Dome Nuts are cold-formed from Stainless Steel Wire in – you guessed it – 1 piece, whereas 2 Piece Dome Nuts are made from guess what? 2 pieces? yep – a hex is cold formed, a dome is cold formed, they are welded together and then the dome is mechanically polished. Now this is the important part – because of this final process the 2- Piece Dome nuts have a VERY well polished finish. The 1-Piece Dome Nuts are shiny and all, but the 2 -Piece ones are the ‘bee’s knees’.
So why have 1-Piece ones you say? Well 1-Piece Dome Nuts are cheaper to produce and cost less but they still look great. If you want a lower profile and shinier finish, use the 2-Piece Stainless Dome Nuts.
