Tension Pins - Imperial sizes - Stainless
Tension Pins also known as Roll Pins or Spring Pins are used for mechanically mating parts together. Accurately machined to tight tolerances in their diameter and hollow they are designed with a slot extending the length of the pin down one side.
Made from 420 grade stainless steel which is a higher carbon version of 410 and can be hardened by heat treatment, it has good ductility in its annealed form but can be harden up to Rockwell Hardness 50HRC. Of all the 12% Chromium Alloys, 420 grade can be hardened the most.
The slot allows the pin to be compressed to fit in a slightly undersized hole the pin is held in place by the expansion force of the pin against the inside of the hole it’s fitted into.
Tension Pins are used in Anzor Anti-Luce Fasteners so the arm of the fastening can pivot in relation to the body, but the applications are wide and varied. They are commonly used in the automotive, general engineering industries and in the manufacture of food processing equipment.
An alternative to using a Tension Pin maybe to use a Dowel Pin or a metric Skew Proof Tension Pin. Standard straight slot Tension Pins are available from Anzor Fasteners in imperial diameters ranging from 1/16” to 1/2” and in 304 grade in a few metric sizes.
If Anzor do not stock or show the size Tension Pin you require please ask as we may be able to source the size you require.
