Everyone knows what a Stainless Steel Nut looks like (he wears an Anzor shirt and just loves stainless fasteners) – er no, I mean the mechanical ones. It might be a Hex Nut or Dome Nut – or even perhaps a Barrel Nut (which is a female threaded barrel with an external drive one end).
But what do you do if you want to fasten a machine threaded fastener such as a Hex Bolt or Machine Screw into Timber?
A T-nut, T nut, or tee nut is a type of nut with an internal machine thread. It comes with 4 prongs that are hammered into timber or wood, leaving a flush surface.
A Tee Nut is used in a ‘blind’ situation where it is not possible to get a nut on the reverse side.
Another type of internally threaded fastener that screws into timber and wood is a machine Stainless Steel Wood Insert.
Wood Inserts are 304 Stainless Steel and screw into timber using an Allen Key/Socket Tip Driver as they have an internal hex socket drive. They have an internal machine thread (sizes M5, M6 and M8) for screwing into.
